Photo: Looking southwest up Woolley Creek to Mount Cromwell (left) and Mount Engelhard from the Icefields ParkwayIn the spring of 2005, Bill Corbett, author of "The 11,000ers of the Canadian Rockies," skied and then walked up the south ridge of Mount Cromwell, at the north end of the Columbia Icefield, near the Twins. At the tip top of the mountain, his GPS registered 11,006 feet. So Mount Cromwell should perhaps be included in the exclusive "over 11,000" group of peaks.
Eaton "Tony" Cromwell and Georgia Engelhard (see Mount Engelhard) were married in 1947 after several years of climbing together in the Canadian Rockies. They retired to Switzerland spending their final years enjoying the Alps together. |
