New Route Info

 Ghost River Rock
The 3rd edition of the guidebook will be published May 2003
Therefore the old Mountain club update is not needed. I am retaining some of the comments that prefaced the update

A Brief Word from the Author (Andy)...
It's amazing what a guidebook does to an area like the Ghost River. After fifteen years of having the place virtually to myself and a small group of friends, the Ghost is now very active. Routes like Macadamia are becoming classics, seeing one-day mass ascents. I have seen up to three or four parties climbing mid-week with up to ten to twenty people on a crowded weekend. Ok, it's not Grassi or The Back Of The Lake, thanks to the Big Guy for that. There has, however, been a great deal of new route activity, which I would like to report (It's now all in the 3rd edition of the guidebook). Third edition? Yes Chris Perry produced the first guide many years ago.

Another Brief Word from the Editor of the update... (Dave Dornian)
A word of warning is probably in order about the gradings assigned to the routes herein: There's been some controversy about numbers of late, and I for one don't want to hear any more '...it's really only 10d', and '...well, maybe if you insist on dragging your belly directly over every bolt...'. Spare me the grief, and take up your troubles with the respective first ascentionists - they're all in the phone book. But also don't think that you're going to get away with anything just because Andy's had to spot-weld his spine. Pickel stumps around in a knee brace, Campbell's a grandfather, Huisman's a banker, and the only songs that Trevor can remember after two beers were last recorded by the Beatles. Check your holds before you pull up, and make sure you have an idea about how you're going to get down. Take care out there.
