Bow Valley Rock Updates
New Short Goat Wall Climb
This short route is not in the new Bow Valley Rock and was done in Aug.2000
"Spelunker's Door" 5.8A1 or 5.10a free, 50m
FA-Greg Cornell and Tony Devonshire
Approach: From the west col of Yam, hike over to the base of the old route called the '"Ramp" in about 15 min.the route is easily visible from Yam as a nice chimney (oxymoron) directly above the obvious box-shaped scree slope on the left corner of it.

Climb the steep 3-tierd crack to a shelf and a bolt. Now either aid the wall on two rivets (hangers left on) or free the yellow flake to a higher ledge and another bolt. Go up and right onto the big ledge and up to the 'door' of the big cave. (2-bolt fixed pig-ring belay) Rap. The cave was entered for a ways and from the stone tosses, seems to go on! The upper pitches have great potential and the rock is that good grey stuff. A 100 m vertical crack to the left of this route would be an awesome challenge. Greg Cornell (gerg4@hotmail.com)

Whiskey Wall in Grotto
A few years ago we did the old route,Glenfiddich, up Grotto Canyon on Whiskey Wall which for those who don't have the old guide, is the grey wall on the left with the long corner(about 4 pitches,5.7)just before the clay cave/hoodoos. I'm not sure why they didn't include it in the guide as it is not a bad climb and only in spots is it mossy. We took TCU's,med.Friends,1 set of nuts,a pink tricam and No pitons. Climb near Barrier Lake
We did this old, obscure route a few years ago and is in the Kananaskis Rock Climbs book by John Martin. It is on page 31 for Barrier Lake Buttress and the route I believe is called 'Friends'. It was on O.K. rock,5.9,5 pitches and took alot of gear. The crux pitch is a bit runout and my partner added a bolt for the belay on pitch 4, as the flake draw in the book fell off. The approach around the lake is very nice and takes about 15min. from the far shoreline to the wall. Greg Cornell (gerg4@hotmail.com)
